Day 4 of my 9-day, 770-mile Ontario cycling adventure was one of my favourites – a 105-mile, 10.5-hour trek around the Simcoe County Bike Loop Trail that started and finished in Springwater, just west of Barrie.
This epic route touches three bodies of water – Lake Simcoe, Lake Couchiching and Georgian Bay – and travels through nine municipalities. Incredibly, the entire route was almost all on trail.
There were some incredible water views, stunning autumn colours and interesting sites, like the towering statue in Penetanguishene, which shares the Wyandot legend of Kitchikewana and the creation of the 30,000 islands in Georgian Bay.
I completed the loop in a counterclockwise direction but will definitely be back to complete it going the other way! The loop was challenging but fun, fast and well-signed. Well done, Cycle Simcoe and County of Simcoe! Something for Windsor and Essex County to emulate!
