Day 2: Hamilton and Burlington Loops

Day 2: I tackled the Hamilton and Burlington area on the second day of my 770-mile, 9-day cycling adventure and was treated to some spectacular views of Lake Ontario, a picturesque waterfall, steep inclines and all manner of trails, from smooth, concrete pathways to the rocky, rutted Red Hill Valley Trail, featuring sections I had to navigate by foot.

It was the first time on this trip – but not the last – that I encountered crossing lights meant specifically for bicycles. Very civilized lol.

I stitched together two well-known Greenbelt routes – the HamBur Loop and the Escarpment Country Cruise – for a total of 72.18 miles over 7.5 hours, notching a personal record for the most elevation gain in one day – 2,276 feet!

The highlights of the ride were Albion Falls, the Hamilton-Brantford Rail Trail, and the Escarpment Recreational Rail Trail, a fast and smooth downhill ride that barely required pedaling. It was the link joining the two routes together so I got to enjoy it twice!
