Rumours of a reconciliation between golfer Tiger Woods and his ex-wife Elin Nordegren appear to be greatly exaggerated.
The web and golf world was buzzing Monday when Woods, fresh off a PGA Tour win at Doral, posted pictures of himself and U.S. skier Lindsey Vonn on his Facebook page and then tweeted about it.
“This season has been great so far and I’m happy with my wins at Torrey and Doral,” wrote Woods on his Facebook page. “Something nice that’s happened off the course was meeting Lindsey Vonn. Lindsey and I have been friends for some time, but over the last few months we have become very close and are now dating. We thank you for your support and for respecting our privacy. We want to continue our relationship, privately, as an ordinary couple and continue to compete as athletes.”
Vonn similiarly used social media to break the news.
“I guess it wasn’t a well-kept secret but yes, I am dating Tiger Woods,” wrote Vonn on her Facebook page. “Our relationship evolved from a friendship into something more over these past few months and it has made me very happy. I don’t plan on addressing this further as I would like to keep that part of my life between us, my family and close friends. Thank you for understanding and your continued support! xo LV”
Woods had 14 majors under his belt, just four shy of the 18 carded by Jack Nicklaus, when his life got the yips in 2010. He was revealed as a serial philanderer and his golf game sank farther and faster than his reputation as a family man as a parade of porn stars emerged to spin unsavoury tales.
Woods’ recent return to form — he has two victories under his belt this season — had many speculating he was getting back together with Nordegren.
